What is it that makes it feel so pressurised at the top?
- The weight of responsibility?
- Being the main decision maker? Having people look to you for answers?
- Maybe all the above and some more?
- Let me know in the comments.
If you re read those I’ve mentioned, they all have one thing in common, and that’s that you are on your own in one way or another. And yet this can be lessened and quite simply.
- What if you were to believe that although you will be ultimately responsible and accountable for the decisions made, they can be made in collaboration with others?
- What if you were to build a team who are experts in their own right and who could lead at different times on different projects?
Would any of that relieve the pressure?
From personal experience, I can tell you that it can.
Understanding your responsibility as a leader and encouraging and for some of you, accepting collaboration, is key.
This is about re-thinking leadership.
Rather than thinking about it in terms of power and responsibility, think about it in terms of co-creating a vision and then being the flag bearer, in terms of serving, in terms of looking after your people, in terms of creating the best team and enabling them to deliver.
Which, if any of those resonate with you?
